Cancer Update on Joel
Since returning to South Africa in August, Joel has had two CEA blood tests (this is a tumor marker test). After surgery in March this test registered a negative one (this is less than one). September first it was plus three (+3); three weeks later it was +5.4 (a normal CEA reading is between three and 10). After receiving the second CEA test and it being elevated, Joel decided to see Dr. Essex-Clark (a Microbiologist) at the Center for Advanced Homoeopathy (he has seen this Dr in the past for fatigue). Dr. Essex-Clark has worked with patients who had cancer 20 years ago and are still cancer free.
September 28, 2005 we sat in his office for two hours and explained the situation to him - December 2004-March 2005 when Joel's CEA continued to climb and surgery for liver cancer had to be performed - and now once again the CEA is beginning to elevate. The Dr performed a number of blood test right in the office. The bottom line is the cells are in a broken down state but definitely repairable (whether they are that way because of heredity, exposure in Vietnam to chemicals, working at Oak Ridge with chemicals, or lead fillings in the teeth). Dr. Essex-Clark gave Joel four medications (herbal and homeopathic); he was also given a special drip to take the chemicals out of his system and rehydrate him. There is to be a total of 10 treatments - one each Wednesday - and then a re-evaluation of his condition.
Last week as we sat in the Drs waiting room, Joel shared the following verse with me (Matt. 9:12) 'They that be whole need not a physician, but they that are sick'. He feels he is doing the right thing about seeing Dr Essex-Clark. It is costing us about a $90 a week to have the treatments but it will be well worth the expense to have Joel cancer free. Presently we will stay with this therapy as the medical Drs have only one other alternative and that is chemotherapy which Joel reacts violently to. I personally am feeling so much better about the situation as Dr. Essex-Clark is a much older gentleman and gives one such confidence in his handling of the matter. Also the medications are much healthier and more natural than the drugs typically prescribed for cancer and they have far fewer side effects.
UPDATE: Today (October 12) the metals test came back showing a high level of mercury in Joel's system. This test should read .5 (less than one) but his reading is 25.2.
From the depths of our hearts Joel and I thank you for your continued prayer support.
CHURCH REPORT
The Lord is continuing to work in a wonderful way at Calvary Johannesburg. We returned to find the treasurer had taken quite a bit of money from the church as well as our own money. God has been so gracious to allow us to almost get our missionaries back up to full support and bring our accounts out of the red. During this time the people have been drawn closer together; our services are sweeter as we draw close to Him.
Last month we were again blessed to have Bro. Marion and Shirley Price from Atlanta with us. This year they brought Pastor Bob Doom from South Carolina with them. We are continuing to get reports back of the blessing they were to our people in preaching the Word of God to us.
It is Spring here now but it is hot, hot!!!!! We are planning a baptism in the next few weeks with four waiting to be baptized. The tract ministry continues strong as well as the street preaching. Many stop to listen BUT many, many more just pass on by. One of our young ladies was handing out tracts at the hospital when the security guard stopped her; he did not want anyone else having the Word of God (when he left that area of the hospital, she continued with the tract distribution). Would you please pray for the lost here in Johannesburg that we may win them to Christ.
God Bless, Joel and Theresa
